Officer for Domestic Politics and Economic Co-operation (temporary job)

The Embassy represents the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Armenia and is based in Yerevan. The issues the Embassy deals with are manifold: political (maintaining good ties with Armenia, addressing regional and global challenges, supporting democratic resilience and rule of law), economic (trade, investment and innovation) and to some extent consular and cultural affairs. The Embassy team, headed by the Ambassador, consists of 2 local employees and 3 expatriates.

We are looking for an Officer for Domestic Politics and Economic Co-operation for the duration of 6 months. Depending on circumstances, it may be possible to enter into a new contract for a longer period. We offer a competitive position in an international environment: gross basic monthly salary is between 1,150,000 and 1,330,000 Dram (depending on experience and subject to taxation in Armenia); for 40 hours per week (working week is Monday to Friday) and certain flexibility in working time.

General


The Netherlands is looking for opportunities to enhance collaboration with Armenia, based on Armenia’s stated policy to build a resilient democracy and rule of law system and on its orientation towards western Europe and the EU. Therefore, the Netherlands is interested in both external and internal political developments in the country. The policy officer will work on domestic policy and economic cooperation. In close cooperation with the Deputy Head of Mission, you support the implementation of the mission’s plans by contributing to political reporting about domestic politics and regional (in)stability. You also monitor and report about the developments towards a free-market economy and trends towards diversification.


Responsibilities


• Monitor regional developments influencing the stability in Armenia and the Southern Caucasus.
• Monitor domestic political, legal, and economic developments, with a view to identifying relevant trends and opportunities for co-operation.
• Contribute to political and -occasionally- economic reporting.
• Advice on Embassy activities, including projects supporting social transformation.
• Support the Senior Political and Economic affairs Policy officer in trade related issues, including the organization of business meetings, creating, and maintaining business network, looking for new opportunities in trade development between The Netherlands and Armenia.
• Support relevant Embassy activities and incoming missions/visitors, including content development, suggestions and recommendations for drafting the agenda, making necessary arrangements and coordinating logistical issues.
• Recognize and liaise with local stakeholders (national/local authorities, NGO’s, think tanks etc.).
• Initiate and implement actions in the framework of the communication strategy of the Embassy, enhancing the visibility of the Netherlands in Armenia.


Qualifications


You have:
• A strong knowledge of Armenia and regional context;
• A relevant academic degree and demonstrable analytical skills;
• At least 4 years working experience in the field of domestic politics, human rights and economic issues;
• A strong political antenna;
• The ability and willingness to roll up sleeves, a proactive approach;
• Fluency in English (speaking, reading, writing), Armenian and preferably also Russian.
