I’m the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Bangladesh and I’m happy that you found this platform. Whether you are looking for travel advice, are interested in business opportunities, or curious to find out about our Embassy’s activities, you can find the relevant information on this site.

Our Embassy is based in Dhaka: Bangladesh’s capital and largest city. After Bangladesh’s independence in 1971, the Kingdom of the Netherlands was one of the first countries to recognize Bangladesh as a nation and to set up diplomatic ties. Since then, we have contributed to various activities, ranging from sanitation, water management and food security to human rights, SRHR and migration. In 2022 we will celebrate 50 years of bilateral ties– a testimony to our strong friendship and collaboration.

Bangladesh and the Netherlands have in common that both countries are situated in a delta of big rivers. This also forms the basis of an important part of our cooperation. The Netherlands is world leader in knowledge of  water management and we support the implementation of the Bangladesh Delta Plan 2100 (BDP2100). We  focus on knowledge cooperation, capacity building and on meaningful interventions on the ground.

For a sustainable response to climate change, an integrated approach that includes water and agriculture is vital. Our Embassy is therefore also closely involved in the agriculture sector – we believe the Netherlands can share proven innovation and technology to further diversify the economy of Bangladesh.

Since the Bangladeshi economy is becoming more robust and mature, our Embassy’s activities are also transitioning. In line with the country’s graduation to a middle income country,  we will decrease our traditional development aid assistance and focus more on trade and investment. Together with Bangladesh, we are working to improve overall market access and the ease of doing business. For us, private sector development and a rights-based approach go hand in hand. That is why we support Bangladesh in improving safe working conditions and labor rights. We stimulate business opportunities for women and we foster skills development, giving young, bright entrepreneurs an opportunity to work on the world of tomorrow.
