Agriculture, Nature and Biodiversity - Brazil
Sustainable Agriculture and Biodiversity Department
The Sustainable Agriculture and Biodiversity (LAN) department strengthens the earning capacity of the Netherlands and contributes to solving the major sustainability challenges of our time by positioning the Netherlands as a leading international cooperation partner in the field of sustainable agriculture and nature conservation.
In Brazil, our team consists of five professionals, located in Brasília (four) and São Paulo (one). We work in an integrated manner to promote bilateral cooperation in areas such as sustainable agriculture, food security, biodiversity, climate change, and nature conservation. Our agenda is structured around two main lines:
- Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security: We focus on cooperation between Brazil and the Netherlands in areas such as bio-inputs, agritechnology, agricultural logistics, horticulture, and dairy.
- Nature and Biodiversity: Focused on nature conservation, biodiversity protection, combating deforestation, and restoring degraded land. We also make cross-connections with the Dutch efforts in the LATAM region, including Colombia and Argentina.
Our main activities and instruments include:
- Technical consultancy: We provide support to Dutch companies that are active in Brazil or want to become active. We also support the export of Dutch agricultural products to Brazil by making clear agreements on phytosanitary and veterinary matters, and we provide assistance in case of any problems in this area.
- Trade missions and events: We organise webinars, missions, and visits to stimulate cooperation in the field of sustainable agriculture and nature conservation.
- Partnership development: We bring together companies, knowledge institutions, and governments from both countries to exchange knowledge and best practices.
- Investments in innovative projects: We support (small-scale) projects that stimulate innovation in the field of agriculture and nature.

The LAN-Brazil team is convinced that closer cooperation between the Netherlands and Brazil in the field of sustainable agriculture and nature conservation will make an essential contribution to the global transition to more sustainable food systems and resilient nature.
