Curators from Rijksmuseum attended a special Rembrandt Fest in Sofia

Two curators from the world-famous Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam visited Sofia on Tuesday and Wednesday and attended the special Rembrandt Fest - a unique interdisciplinary event, dedicated to the work of the Dutch painter Rembrandt van Rijn.

In a fascinating presentation Dr. Eric Hinterding shared with the enthusiastic audience of students, art experts and connoisseurs little-known facts and valuable discoveries about the techniques used by Rembrandt in his work, his inspirations and artistic influences. Dr. Friso Lammertse gave invaluable insights and advice on contemporary curatorial practices and approaches.

Artistic, literary and philosophical approaches to the work of Rembrandt were shared in a panel discussion, attended by the poet and translator Dr. Boriana Katzarska, the artist Yavora Petrova and Assoc. Prof. Yassen Zahariev.

Marin Petkov and Strahil Jordanov from MP-STUDIO, enabled the audience to experience the works of the great master in a digital way through impressions from their highly successful project Vincent Meets Rembrandt, realized in Noordekerk in Amsterdam.

In his address to the participants ambassador Simon van der Burg shared his personal impressions from the work of the great painter underlining his innovative and revolutionary approaches and enormous impact on the artists and audiences all over the world.

The Rembrandt Fest was followed by a seminar on Wednesday with students of the New Bulgarian University, led by Dr. Friso Lammertse, Dr. Eric Hinterding and Dr. Todor Petev (New Bulgarian University). In the focus of the event were the etchings of Rembrandt as well as best practices in the curatorial work.

The project is supported by the Embassy of the Netherlands in Bulgaria, NBU Strategic Development Fund, Center "Bulgarian-European Cultural Dialogues" and with the assistance of the Cultural Center at the Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”.

Rembrandt Fest was a part of In the Mirror of Rembrandt project. In December 2023 UniArt gallery presented an exhibition of Rembrandt photogravures from the NBU collection. A students’ interpretations on Rembrandt etchings were also part of the exhibition and a special competition took place.

The project continues on January 30 at UniArt Gallery, when a special publication will be launched.
