Margriet Vonno

Dutch Ambassador in Ottawa

Margriet Vonno has been the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Canada since August 2024.

Margriet is very proud to work in a country that has such special links to the Netherlands. Canadians liberated her birth town of Kampen and large parts of the Netherlands after the Second World War. She is an avid gardener, loves tulips and now lives in Ottawa where the biggest tulip festival in the world takes place. Furthermore, she appreciates the value based collaboration with Canada, trying to make the world a better place and working together on innovative business collaboration focused on a sustainable future.

- 2022-2024 Inspector of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. 

In this role she focused on evaluating and coaching Dutch missions abroad.

-2017-2022 Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Singapore and Brunei.

While Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Singapore and Brunei. She focused on sustainability, innovation and cycling. Connecting all kinds of people from her Dutch European perspective. 

She studied International Relations at Utrecht University, and holds an MBA from the Rotterdam School of Management. In 1990 she started her career at the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs and held various positions in New York, Washington DC, Brussels and The Hague. Before becoming Netherlands Ambassador in Singapore she was Director at the Strategy and Policy Advice Department at the Netherlands Ministry for Infrastructure and the Environment from 2014-2017 and Deputy Director of the Europe Department at the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2011-2014.

Margriet is a member of the Advisory Board of the Rotterdam School of Management. She was member of the advisory board of Velocity, the international cycling conference that was held in the Netherlands in June 2017. She is also a board member of the Dutch Association of Public Management. She is married to Martin Vonno and they have one daughter, Leda, who studies in Rotterdam.
