The Defence Attaché is the highest appointed representative of the Ministry of Defence, the Royal Army, the Royal Air Force, Royal Navy and the Royal Military Police in China.

The Defence Attaché:
- Is the primary contact for issues concerning the Netherlands Ministry of Defence 
-Keeps interested parties in The Hague informed about developments and trends in Chinese defence policy in general as well as within the Chinese Armed Forces
-Maintains close contact with various representatives of the Chinese Armed Forces and with other foreign military attaches in the People’s Republic of China
-Is the primary contact for Chinese military representatives for issues concerning the Netherlands Armed Forces
