In over 80 works the evolution of Zhuang Hong Yi’s artistry is showcased in the Kaleidoscope exhibition at Powerlong Museum (Shanghai). Zhuang Hong Yi (China, 1962) has established himself as a leading contemporary art figure, gaining global recognition with his renowned "Flowerbed" series. Zhuang Hong Yi studied at Minerva Academy in Groningen (Netherlands) and has exhibited in a solo show at Groninger Museum (Netherlands).
In his "Flowerbed" series, Zhuang folds hundreds of rice paper strips into delicate flower buds, which he then arranges meticulously on the canvas. Spraying layers of acrylic paint from different angles, he creates kinetic compositions that shift in hue and form as the viewer moves around the work.
Zhuang’s inspiration for these works stems from his travels between
Beijing and the Netherlands, when he was enraptured by the changing
colors of the Dutch tulip fields below. He blends Chinese aesthetics
and philosophies with European influences.
