In the framework of International Human Rights Day and as part of the 16 Days of Activism, Orange The World, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, in collaboration with the Directorate General of Cinema (DGCine) and its Dominican Cinematheque, organized a special screening of the documentary We Are Guardians, from the Movies That Matter selection, bringing together prominent representatives of cultural, environmental and diplomatic sectors.
The screening highlighted the fundamental connection between human rights, environmental protection and globalization, with special emphasis on the importance of addressing environmental challenges from a social justice perspective, recognizing that environmental sustainability is key to guaranteeing the fundamental rights of future generations.
We Are Guardians is a documentary that chronicles the struggle of indigenous communities and activists to protect rainforests from illegal deforestation and climate change. The film not only makes visible the most pressing environmental challenges of our time, but also highlights the courage of those who defend these vital resources, often in the face of enormous risks.
The screening was followed by a panel discussion moderated by film and human rights specialists. During the panel, the role of film as a tool to raise social awareness and how such productions can inspire concrete actions in favor of the environment and human rights was discussed.
The activity is part of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands' ongoing commitment to promote dialogue on crucial global issues, using art as a powerful medium to educate and mobilize communities.
The event concluded with a call to action, encouraging attendees to reflect on their role as agents of change in building a more just and sustainable future.
