Development cooperation in Ethiopia

Over the past years Ethiopia has achieved high economic growth and made considerable progress in achieving a number of the Millennium Development Goals. The country’s growth strategy with its emphasis on agricultural transformation and a strong expansion of public investment has delivered impressive results.

Still, in the foreseeable future Ethiopia will remain by any standard a poor and predominantly rural society. For the coming 10-15 years, the embassy will continue its development cooperation programme in Ethiopia, while at the same time intensifying activities in the economic domain in order to gradually switch from Aid to Trade.

In line with the Dutch Government’s Development Cooperation programme, the embassy focuses on three fields in which the Netherlands itself excels:

Food Security
Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) and
Security and Rule of Law
