Infected animals were found at a cattle farm in West Hungary. Safety measures have been put in place.

On Friday, March 7, Hungary’s National Food Chain Safety Office (NÉBIH) announced that the presence of the foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) was confirmed at a cattle farm in Kisbajcs, Győr-Moson-Sopron County, West Hungary. The livestock disease affects even-toed ungulates like cattle, pigs, sheep, goats, buffalo, deer, etc.

Protection and surveilance zones have been set up in the vicinity of the farm, which also extend into neighboring Slovakia. The export of susceptible livestock is prohibited. There are other restrictions in place on the domestic transport of animals. Various zoos and wildlife parks have closed, and parts of the country’s National Blue Trail is also closed due to the disease.

Authorities have put safety measures in place. Our agriculture department monitors the situation, their report is available on Agroberichten Buitenland.
