'What If Lab': Indonesian and Dutch designers collaborate in th eproject to address sustainability challenges in Indonesia
As one of the world’s densest cities, Jakarta experiences environmental issues and societal challenges. Erasmus Huis, the Dutch Design Foundation, and Playo teamed to create 'What if Lab: Sustainable Public Spaces'. This program shows the collaboration of Dutch and Indonesian designers to develop sustainable public spaces in kampung communities in Jakarta. The program's journey was showcased at the exhibition hall of Erasmus Huis.
Issues in society require innovative solutions and a shift in mindset. The 'What If Lab' unites design studios and organizations to merge their skills, networks, and resources in order to bring positive change. Designers tackle complex problems while corporations gain fresh insights into future possibilities.
This project aims to promote global connectivity and inspiration within the design industry. Both designers can benefit from one other's expertise, skills, and background. We believe that integrating diverse experiences can help address community challenges and inspire innovative solutions from fresh viewpoints.
Heritage and museum cooperation
The Netherlands and Indonesia maintain a strong partnership in heritage cooperation. These involve capacity development and knowledge exchange in issues related to adaptive reuse, digitalization, or the management of collections, whether colonial or otherwise.
The Reinwardt Academy partnered with the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture, the Dutch Embassy in Jakarta, Heritage Hands-On, and the Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands to provide training courses that enhance the skills of heritage professionals in Indonesia.
