On Thursday, June 20, 2024, Dutch Embassy hosted a seminar on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), bringing together Indonesian and Dutch stakeholders to discuss the “One Health” approach. Experts from both nations shared insights on human, animal, and environmental health, fostering a rich exchange of experiences and knowledge.

This seminar was part of an incoming mission from the Dutch Ministry of Health, Welfare, and Sports, the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM), and esteemed academic institutions such as Erasmus University, Radboud University, and Utrecht University.

The mission engaged with various Indonesian stakeholders, including the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Agriculture, World Health Organization, Food and Agriculture Organization, as well as numerous Indonesian scientists and Civil Society Organizations in the field of AMR.

This mission follows a similar, smaller initiative that took place in August 2023. The Netherlands is renowned for its low antibiotic consumption, with defined daily doses per 1,000 inhabitants being far below the European average. Our nations are collaborating on AMR initiatives, including an antimicrobial stewardship program with several hospitals in Indonesia.

We look forward to continuing cooperation in promoting rational use of antibiotics.
