The year 2025 has started on a high note for cultural connections between the Netherlands and Indonesia! Ambassador for International Cultural Cooperation, Dewi van de Weerd, recently visited Jakarta to strengthen ties and share ideas for future partnerships.

During her visit, the ambassador met with Minister of Culture Fadli Zon and Vice-Minister Giring Ganesha. Key discussions focused on enhancing the repatriation of cultural objects to Indonesia, initiating a film co-production under the existing treaty, and fostering more exchanges within the creative economy sector.

Beyond formal meetings, the ambassador explored Museum Nasional of Indonesia, where she admired the latest exhibition on the Pithecanthropus erectus. She also highlighted the ongoing museum collaboration between the embassy, the Indonesian Heritage Agency, the Reinwardt Academy, and the Cultural Heritage Agency, ensuring a stronger partnership in heritage preservation.

The Erasmus Huis team briefed the ambassador on exciting plans for 2025, especially its 55th-anniversary celebrations—a significant milestone for the Dutch cultural center in Indonesia.

In Kampung Kunir, Kota Tua, the ambassador witnessed the inspiring outcomes of social design projects by Kampung Kollektief and Dutch Design Foundation. These collaborations showcased how creativity can make a positive impact at the community level.

As the Netherlands and Indonesia continue to deepen their cultural ties, 2025 promises to be a year of dynamic partnerships driven by creativity and people-to-people connections.
