Dutch author, poet, filmmaker and visual artist Marion Bloem is coming to the Jakarta Content Week (JakTent) this year to talk about how her Indo "identity" has shaped her writing.
Marion Bloem is a Dutch writer and filmmaker of Indo (mixed Dutch
and Indonesian) descent, best known as the author of the acclaimed
book "Geen gewoon Indisch meisje" (No Ordinary Indo Girl),
"Moemie", and director of the feature film "Ver van
familie" (Far from Family).
Much of Bloem's work
revolves around an artistic exploration of Indo identity and culture,
putting her personal search for Indo identity in the broader
perspective of immigration and integration.
With Indonesian
writer Ayu Utami as a moderator, get to know Marion Bloem as she
discusses the challenges of growing up Indo in the Netherlands, how
“identity” has shaped her writing, and the situation in regard to
being Indo in the Netherlands today.
