The Launch of ‘KUPI’ on International Women's Day
On International Women’s Day, we take a moment to celebrate the strength, resilience, and impact of women all around the world. This year, we’re especially proud to share an exciting milestone in the fight for gender equality.
The Dutch Embassy in Indonesia recently launched a collaboration with Kongres Ulama Perempuan Indonesia (KUPI), a movement made up of female Islamic scholars who are working to promote women’s rights and a more progressive interpretation of Islam.
KUPI stands for inclusion, justice, and empowerment. Their mission is to ensure that women’s voices are heard in Islamic discussions, helping create a more inclusive and fair approach to religion. At the launch event, inspiring organizations came together to exchange ideas, connect, and take steps toward positive change.
The evening ended with an emotional performance of KUPI’s powerful anthem, followed by singing, dancing, and shared joy. This celebration wasn’t just about having fun—it marked an important step forward in strengthening women’s leadership within Islam in Indonesia.
As we reflect on this special moment, let’s keep supporting and amplifying the voices of women who are shaping a more inclusive and fair future. Together, we can continue to work toward a world where women’s rights are respected and their leadership is celebrated.
