Working Together Towards a Sustainable Future in Aviation - Indonesia
Working Together Towards a Sustainable Future in Aviation
On 13-14 November, five Dutch partners in the airport development sector visited Indonesia to exchange knowledge and strengthen partnership with Indonesian counterparts.
Following fruitful meetings with Angkasa Pura 2 and 1, respectively, the delegation also visited the Soekarno-Hatta and Yogyakarta international airports. The visit has reaffirmed our commitment to work together with Indonesia on realizing a sustainable aviation future.
The visit started with a morning session comprising discussions and the exchange of updates on sustainability aspects of airport development and airport retrofit. Indonesian stakeholders were present in the session, such as the Indonesian Ministry of Transport (Directorate-General Civil Aviation/DGCA), Angkasa Pura 1 and 2, as well as partners from the private sector.
Dutch Ambassador Lambert Grijns stated during the opening of the session that the Netherlands is committed to supporting airports globally to fulfill the same commitment to realizing a sustainable aviation industry. Indonesia and the Netherlands have an aligned policy and are moving in the same direction. The shared opportunities and challenges, as well as the strong bond between the two countries, provide plenty of room for partnerships.
Following the remarks by the Act The Director of Airports and representatives from the Indonesian DGCA presented the current and upcoming airport developments in Indonesia, with attention to eco-airports and airport retrofitting and revitalization. The importance of utilizing renewable energy and green infrastructure was emphasized.
The participating Dutch companies, namely NACO, Ooms Producten, Schiphol, To70 Aviation, and Vanderlande, shared their efforts and experience, among others, in applying digital solutions, optimizing airport operations, and enhancing the customer experience. These companies have been actively teaming up with Indonesian partners and exploring more fields to collaborate with. Our Embassy is working together with the Netherlands Aerospace Group (NAG) and the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) to facilitate these connections even further. The program continued with visits to Soekarno-Hatta International Airport and Yogyakarta International Airport to learn first-hand the development roadmap of Angkasa Pura 2 and 1, respectively.
This visit was part of the European Union-funded program to support Dutch companies through the RVO. Indonesia and the Netherlands have been partnering to realize a smart and sustainable transport sector. A joint statement on this was signed between the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation and the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management in 2020. Earlier this year, an Indonesian aviation delegation visited the Netherlands to join a five-day program focusing on smart and sustainable aviation.
