About World Press Photo Exhibition 2024
The World Press Photo Exhibition 2024 showcases the best and most important photojournalism and documentary photography. Selected from over 61,000 entries by 3,851 photographers, the award-winning works document some of the most pressing issues facing the world today, from the wars in Gaza and Ukraine, migration, to family and dementia. The winning images show the importance of press freedom and are a testament to the courage, skill and empathy shown by photographers worldwide. This includes the work of Indonesian photographer Arie Basuki, whose photo of pollution in Cileungsi river won a honorable mention in the Southeast Asia and Oceania region.
In 2021 a new regional contest model was launched to support a greater diversity of stories and storytellers, offering a more comprehensive global perspective. Independent and highly qualified jury members came from six worldwide regions (Africa, Asia, Europe, North and Central America, South America and Southeast Asia and Oceania) with a range of expertise. One of the jury members for Southeast Asia and Oceania is Ng Swan Ti, the managing director of PannaFoto Institute and co-founder of the Jakarta International Photo Festival (JIPFest).
