New open call architecture 2024

The Embassy and Consulate General of the Netherlands in Italy are launching an open call.
Italian cultural organisations active in the field of architecture, urban planning and landscaping are invited to submit proposals for collaboration projects that involve professionals from in the Netherlands. The project should reflect on at least one of the following themes:

1.    Architecture and Sustainability
Addressing biodiversity loss and the far-reaching spatial, economic, and social implications of climate change demands a paradigm shift. Professionals in the field assume a crucial role. Solutions are needed to significantly mitigate the impact of climate change. This entails also a reevaluation of the built environment encompassing technologies, supply chains, lifestyles, reuse practices, energy consumption, development space, and the broader ecosystem.

2.    Architecture and Immigration
Throughout history, migration has been a defining force, shaping human civilisation from its early stages when hunter-gatherer settlements evolved into thriving cities. The ongoing migration has spatial consequences and is intertwined with a broader need for finding affordable housing solutions. Rapidly deployable and secure shelter is indispensable to support those escaping natural disasters and political turmoil. The presence of immigrants can also create opportunities for revival of abandoned spaces in rural areas and urban neighbourhoods. Creative professionals can play a crucial role in reflecting on the spatial consequences of humanity on the move.
We place our trust in the capabilities of creatives and makers to critically engage with at least one of the two questions. Therefore, we welcome projects by architecture institutes and associations, that aim at developing new scenarios.
Various forms of collaborations may be proposed, such as researches, workshops, missions, presentations and the exchange of knowledge. Excluded are purely commercial activities, of which the development of products, services, software, publications, audiovisual material and training programs.
Each project should meet the following requirements:

•    Activities must have a tangible outcome related to the themes of this open call;
•    A sound communication strategy focused on both traditional and social media;

•    The project includes opportunities for public presentations of the results and has the potential to reach a relevant audience
•    Each project must have a clear and recognisable Dutch character, especially when the involved professionals are non-Dutch nationals.
The total budget available for this call is €15.000, -. We have not set a maximum contribution per project. The allocation of funds will depend on a cost-benefit analysis. Grants will be awarded on the basis of co-financing and will never exceed 50% of the overall project budget.
