Dutch literature
The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands promotes Dutch literature in Japan. We do this by joining the European Literature Festival. As part of this festival we invite writers, publishers, translators and/or educators from the Netherlands. For more information, please visit eulitfest.jp .
The embassy also participates in ‘narrating eu:rope’. This online platform has been launched by the Delegation of the European Union to Japan to connect booklovers and publishing professionals in Europe and Japan through contemporary literature. Dutch Books
The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands offers a selection of Dutch books at the nl/library in the free space of Shibaura House, Tokyo Location and opening hours : SHIBAURA HOUSE
Subsidies for translation for Foreign Publishers and subsidy for travel costs of Dutch Authors
The Dutch Foundation for Literature is the Dutch organization that supports writers and translators, and promotes Dutch literature abroad. The foundation has various subsidies available to encourage foreign publishers to publish Dutch literature in translation.
A foreign publisher can apply for financial support for the publication in translation of a Dutch book of fiction, non-fiction or poetry, a graphic novel or a children’s book.
Translation grants may also be made available to literary magazines and for exclusively digital publications. For more information, please visit Translation grants - Grants - Letterenfonds.
Furthermore, publishers, festivals and literary organizations may apply for a subsidy to cover the travel expenses of recently translated Dutch authors to do promotional activities abroad.

Language learning
The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands participates in events to promote language-learning and organizes events for learners of Dutch. Aspiring Dutch speakers can practice their skills at the EU Day of Languages and Dutch language gatherings. Information about these events will be announced on the social media channels of the Embassy.
