Water and Sanitation Investors Conference (WASIC)
On 6-8 March 2024, the Ministry of Water, Sanitation, and Irrigation (MoWSI) in collaboration with Water Sector Trust Fund (WSTF) and the Council of Governors hosted the WASIC conference in Nairobi themed “Accelerating Investments for Sustainable Access to Water and Sanitation for All”.
Collaborative Approach to Water Sector Finance: Insights from Recent Side Event
The Embassy together with MoWSI and WSTF convened a side event themed, “unlocking capital markets financing for water sector projects”. During the side event, Ambassador Maarten Brouwer, Willis Ombai, Chief Executive WSTF and Julius Korir, Principal Secretary water and sanitation, MOWSI delivered opening remarks and emphasized the need for collaboration between Government, development partners and private sector in devising a comprehensive water sector finance strategy, enabling innovative finance and local currency financing solutions for projects in the water sector. Several project propositions were also presented including the Naivasha Special Economic Zone Water Supply project, Turasha Dam project and the Eldowas green bond issuance to finance the Chebara and Kipkaren water supply project.
Dutch Pavilion Highlights: Promoting Water Sector Trade and Investments
The Embassy also organized a Dutch Pavilion for Dutch Companies to exhibit during the conference. Some of the Dutch stakeholders represented in the conference and exhibitions included Rebel Group, World Waternet, Nasava Water, Zephyr (Slamdam), Kenya Innovative Finance Facility for water (KIFFWA), Aqua for All, VEI, Maji Milele, PUM and Finish Mondial. The conference was well aligned with the Embassy’s objective to promote trade, investments and commercial financing for the water sector.
