Home - PR Council of Europe, Strasbourg
Welcome to the website of the Permanent Representation of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the Council of Europe. We work on upholding and promoting the core values of the Council of Europe: the rule of law, democracy and human rights. We represent the interests and values of the Kingdom of the Netherlands at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg.
The Netherlands is dedicated to addressing Europe’s most pressing challenges. We strongly support accountability for Ukraine, for instance by hosting the Council of Europe Register of Damages for Ukraine in The Hague. We stand for a strong, independent rule of law. This includes strengthening the human rights system of the Council of Europe; implementation of the judgments of the European Court of Human rights is key. We continue to aim for gender equality and human dignity for all, including for LGBTIQ+ persons. The Netherlands is particularly active in the promotion of the Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (the Istanbul Convention).
