03 May World Press Freedom Day

World Press Freedom Day celebrates independent journalism and the fundamental principles of freedom of expression and free media. This year, the Netherlands Permanent Representation to the EU will pay tribute to the brave journalists reporting from the front lines in Ukraine. In times of crisis, access to reliable and independent information is more essential than ever.

The Panel Discussion will focus on the challenges faced by journalists, in particular women journalists, when reporting the facts of war and countering disinformation. How can EU policy makers best assist them? What role is there for civil society? What are the immediate consequences of the Russian disinformation campaign? And how can local and international media reinforce each other?
