Biography

Robert in den Bosch is the Disarmament Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the Conference on Disarmament of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Geneva as of 1 September 2022.

He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1986. During the course of his career, he has served as Defence Counsellor at the Dutch Permanent Representation to NATO (2017 – 2022) and as the Head of the NATO Desk at the Ministry of Defence in The Hague (2013 – 2017). Prior to that he was the Deputy Head of Mission at the Dutch Embassy in Tehran (2011 – 2013) and Kyiv (2007 – 2011).

Earlier in his career, Ambassador Robert in den Bosch was responsible for Arms Control Issues at the Dutch Permanent Representation to the OSCE (2002 – 2007), he was twice assigned to the Security Policy Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in The Hague, where he mainly dealt with the Balkans, and worked in between at the Permanent Representation to NATO and the WEU in Brussels. He started his career at the Dutch Embassy in Paramaribo in 1986, followed by a posting at the Embassy in Rome. He also did two tours as a political adviser in crisis management operations (Bosnia 2001 – 2002 and Iraq 2004 – 2005).

Robert in den Bosch was born in The Hague on 26 November 1960 and studied Dutch and International Law at Leiden University. He is married to Leonieke van Hijkoop.
