Ukraine: Interactive Dialogue on the Oral update of the High Commissioner
Statement of the Kingdom of the Netherlands delivered by H.E. Ambassador Lars Tummers, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the UN in Geneva
Thank you Mr. President,
The Kingdom of the Netherlands aligns itself with the EU statement.
We thank the High Commissioner for his oral update.
Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure continue to have a detrimental impact on essential services.
These attacks disrupt the daily lives of civilians.
They leave communities, especially the most vulnerable to suffer cold, hunger, and insecurity and deprive them of services essential for their survival.
Let us remember that energy is not just a resource,
it is a lifeline for households, hospitals, schools, and businesses,
and its destruction exacerbates the suffering of Ukrainians.
We condemn in the strongest possible terms these systematic Russian attacks.
Impunity cannot prevail, those responsible must be held to account.
That is why the Kingdom of the Netherlands, as lead nation on point 7 of President Zelensky’s Peace Plan, remains committed to continue its support for Ukraine’s path towards accountability for the people of Ukraine.
Mr. High Commissioner,
As it is clear that Russia’s attacks are meant to disrupt the daily lives of the Ukrainians, how can we strengthen our efforts for emergency mitigation and winter preparedness, whilst simultaneously ensuring that these atrocities do not remain unpunished?
