Orange the world every day of the year

In November and December, the Embassy of the Netherlands in Slovakia joined the 6th annual Orange the world campaign. Only by working together can we build a future where women and girls live free from violence.

“Every 10 Minutes, a woman is killed.” (source: UN) Femicide, the killing of women because of their gender, persists in all cultural, economic and social settings. In 2022, 48,800 women were murdered by (ex-)partners and family members around the world. Women and girls are at a greater risk of being killed at home—55 percent of all female homicides were committed by intimate partners or family members, while 12 percent of all male homicides were perpetrated by family members.

We launched the 16 days of activism together with President Peter Pellegrini, 55 diplomatic missions accredited in Slovak Republic and 5 ministers of the Slovak government supporting the message of Orange the world.

Among other activities, together with Embassy of Sweden and IKEA, we organized the first ever Orange Run in Bratislava. Dozens of runners joined us to say NO to gender based violence by running a symbolic 5K.

While the 16 Days of Activism are very important in bringing attention to gender based violence, we continue to fight it every day the whole year. Let us #orangetheworld by standing united against all forms of violence and fighting for gender equality.
