South Africa to be classified as High Risk

News item | 28-01-2022 | 08:04

From 29 January, 2022, South Africa will move from a 'Very High Risk' country to a 'High Risk' country.

This means that travellers from South Africa will no longer have to quarantine when entering the Netherlands. Travellers will still need to produce a negative test result and qualify for exemption from the EU Entry ban.

Fully vaccinated travellers from South Africa are eligible for exemption, but must provide proof of vaccination showing that you have been fully vaccinated with a vaccine approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) or the World Health Organization (WHO)..

More information on the EU entry ban exemption categories can be found here: EU entry ban exemption categories | Coronavirus COVID-19 | Government.nl.

Negative Test Result

All travellers over the age of 12 must produce a negative PCR test, no older than 48 hours before departure, or a negative antigen test, no older than 24 hours before departure.

These changes also apply to Eswatini, Lesotho, and Namibia.
