The Netherlands is renowned for its vast knowledge and innovative practices in agriculture, proudly holding the position of the second-largest exporter of agricultural products worldwide. This expertise is being harnessed to strengthen agricultural sectors in Tanzania, with a focus on key areas such as horticulture, potato cultivation, aquaculture, and poultry farming. As Tanzania emerges as the food basket for the East African region, the Netherlands anticipates significant growth in investments and trade within the agricultural sector in the coming years. This growth is not only vital for regional food security but also positions Tanzania as an increasingly important supplier to global markets.

To support the development of these critical sectors, the Netherlands Embassy actively creates platforms for dialogue and collaboration, fostering robust economic ties between Tanzania and the Netherlands. By prioritizing partnerships and cooperation, we aim to contribute to the global pursuit of sustainable and efficient agricultural solutions. The Embassy is committed to working alongside knowledge institutes, research organizations, and the private sector. This collaborative approach is essential for developing innovative, sustainable agricultural practices that benefit both nations.

For instance, In the horticulture and potato sectors, ongoing dialogues have identified the availability and accessibility of quality seeds as a significant bottleneck. To address this challenge, the Embassy collaborates closely with sector associations such as the Tanzania Horticultural Association (TAHA), TAHA Fresh Ltd, and the Southern Agricultural Growth Corridor of Tanzania (SAGCOT) Center. Together, we are transforming challenges into opportunities, enhancing productivity and sustainability in these vital industries. In the livestock sector, several areas require attention, including animal feeds, genetics, and health. Our agriculture team works in partnership with organizations such as the Poultry Association and the Aquaculture Association, as well as with the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries. Through these collaborations, we aim to create an enabling environment that encourages private sector investment and drives meaningful change.

The Netherlands Embassy remains steadfast in its commitment to building partnerships that are mutually beneficial for the agricultural sector and its stakeholders. By leveraging our expertise and fostering collaboration, we are dedicated to enhancing the sustainability, efficiency, and resilience of agricultural practices in Tanzania, contributing to the nation’s growth and its role in global food supply. Together, we are shaping a prosperous agricultural future for Tanzania and the Netherlands.
