Through our trade and investment promotion focus area, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands is committed to fostering economic growth and collaboration with Tanzania. As such, the Embassy prioritizes a series of sectors;

  • Agrologistics: We enhance agricultural supply chains to improve food security and market access, ensuring that Tanzanian produce reaches both local and international markets effectively. A critical component of this is the development of cold chain logistics, which is essential for preserving the quality and freshness of perishable goods, particularly fruits and vegetables. By exploring opportunities in improving cold chain logistics in Tanzania, we help farmers reduce spoilage, increase profitability, and meet international quality standards.

  • Strengthening and Enabling the Business Environment: By advocating for policies that facilitate entrepreneurship and streamline business operations as well as advising the Tanzanian government on policy decisions, we aim to create a favorable environment for both local and foreign investors and businesses.

  • Sustainable Tourism: Our initiatives promote eco-friendly tourism practices that not only benefit the economy but also protect Tanzania's rich natural and cultural heritage.

  • Startups: Recognizing the vital role of startups as drivers of job creation and economic growth, we support their development through various hubs such as Westerwelle, Anza, I4policy, and She Found, which are designed to strengthen the startup ecosystem in Tanzania. Moreover, women's empowerment and gender mainstreaming have been key focuses of the Embassy in achieving Sustainable Development Goal 5. Collaborating with local organizations such as Doyenne and She Found has helped ensure an increase in women’s leadership and participation in Tanzanian business life and entrepreneurship.

  • Fintech: We encourage innovation in financial technology, partnering with organizations like the Tanzania Fintech Association (TAFINA) and the Zanzibar Startup Policy to ensure that youth are supported in achieving such goals, and to enhance access to financial services and foster economic inclusivity.

  • Ports and Logistics: The Netherlands is dedicated to improving Tanzania's port infrastructure and logistics networks. By enhancing the efficiency of key (water and dry) ports  and developing inland transport corridors, we aim to facilitate smoother trade flows and better connectivity both regionally and internationally. This effort not only strengthens Tanzania's position as a logistics hub but also supports the overall economic development of the region, making it easier for businesses to access global markets. Moreover, the Netherlands’ support for strengthening efficient logistics and ports is also closely linked to our strategic work on agriculture and food systems.
