Vacancy: Honorary Consul in Birmingham
The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the United Kingdom is recruiting an Honorary Consul in Birmingham and surroundings (West Midlands, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, Hereford and Worcester, Gloucestershire, Avon, Somerset, Wiltshire, Leicestershire, Northamptonshire, and Rutland).

The Honorary Consul will represent the interests of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and will report to the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in London. The Honorary Consul will become part of a network of eleven counterparts throughout the United Kingdom. The general provisions concerning the prerogatives, privileges and immunities of an Honorary Consul are defined in the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations. The function of Honorary Consul is not remunerated, apart from an annual lump sum.
The Honorary Consul is appointed for a maximum period of 5 years, with the possibility of a renewal for a further period of 5 years. The Honorary Consul must demonstrate exemplary behavior and ensure that he/she does not place him/herself in a position of conflict of interest with his/her other professional or business interests.
Criteria

A maximum age of 60 years old (at the time of starting the position)

Have his/her own sources of income (be financially independent)

Fluent in English
Job tasks

Representing the Netherlands at official activities and ceremonies of the authorities and the Consular Corps

Promoting economic interests and Dutch-Anglo cooperation in key sectors

Ensuring the protection of Dutch nationals, especially in emergency situations

Accompanying official visits, as well as tasks in the field of science, education, culture and information
Required knowledge and skills
-
Have a broad network in local and regional society, preferably in the business or cultural sector

Have a good knowledge of his/her region and of the economic and political actors
-
Have a thorough understanding of the economic dynamics of the territory

Ability to maintain relations with the administrative and political authorities, for a quick contact in case of need for the services of the Embassy in London
-
Preferably have concrete links or affinities with the Netherlands
