A Study on Port Development in Vietnam: Digitalization & Sustainability

News item | 14-06-2024 | 09:24

Vietnam has a 3,440-kilometer coastline with 34+ seaports (including 10 international ports), making it a regional maritime hub and one of the world's best-connected countries (ranked 9th by LSCI). Vietnam's enhanced seaport infrastructure has attracted foreign shipping lines and allows for more efficient cargo transit. In addition, the development of seaports is strongly supported by the Vietnamese government. However, specific sectoral challenges still exist, mainly in the areas of sustainability and digitalization.

In Q1 2024, KPMG completed a market study “Port Sustainability”, aiming to identify opportunities for the Dutch maritime businesses in Vietnam. The study was funded by the Netherlands Embassy in Hanoi and the Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City.
In this study, you will find out more about Vietnam's port sector landscape, the implications for foreign investors and business partners (especially in green and digital port transformation), as well as recommendations for successful business in Vietnam.

The Netherlands Embassy and CG in Vietnam, together with relevant sectoral stakeholders, will organise events and workshops to utilise the findings of this study report towards Vietnam's green and sustainable port development.
