Prime Minister Mark Rutte of the Netherlands visits Vietnam

On the invitation of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, the Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mark Rutte will visit Vietnam on the 1st and 2nd of November 2023. The government delegation is accompanied by a business delegation consisting of 23 high-tech companies and organisations, led by Ms. Brigit van Dijk, CEO of the Brabant Development Agency (BOM). The visit aims to further deepen the strong cooperation between the two countries in the context of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and the Netherlands.

Meetings with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh
After the official welcome ceremony at the Office of the Government, Prime Minister Rutte will meet with Prime Minister Chinh to discuss the possibilities to intensify trade and investment between the two countries and to deepen cooperation in traditional areas of partnership such as water, agriculture, logistics, as well as digitalisation and high-tech industries. The two heads of government will witness the exchange of documents facilitating the cooperation in the fields of custom assistance, sustainable exploration and exploitation of critical minerals,  business cooperation the semiconductor industry and in sustainable and smart lighting . Later in the evening, Prime Minister Chinh will host a state banquet in honour of Prime Minister Rutte and his delegation.



Towards the development of high tech and green economy

During his visit to Hanoi, Prime Minister Rutte will attend the High-tech Business Forum organised by the Netherlands Embassy at the Samsung R&D Center. In this forum, international and local business partners will share their perspectives on the position of Vietnam in the international high tech value chains, as well as strategies and recommendations for nurturing Vietnamese high tech talents. The Dutch businesses will present their innovative and smart solutions in a series of elevator pitches during the event. Apart from the matchmaking sessions in Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh city, the companies will go on site visits in both cities to meet with local business partners to increase their understanding of the market and the business climate in Vietnam. The official delegation in Ho Chi Minh city will be led by the Vice-Minister for Foreign Economic Relations Mr. Michiel Sweers.

The Green Economy Forum in Hanoi coincides with my visit, and could not have been more timely’, says Prime Minister Rutte.

Our mission is about creating opportunities to forge new partnerships, thereby boosting bilateral trade and investment,’ says Ms. van Dijk, CEO BOM, business delegation leader.


Together with Prime Minister Chinh and EU Commissioner Dombrovskis, Prime Minister Rutte will deliver a speech at  the plenary session of the Green Economy Forum (GEF) 2023, which is organised by the Eurocham Vietnam. Following the successful Green Economy Forum and Exhibition (GEFE) 2022, GEF 2023 serves as a platform to advocate for and promote sustainable practices, policies, and initiatives aimed at fostering Vietnam’s sustainable development. Topics to be discussed at the forum include green finance, decarbonisation, green energy transformation and sustainable agriculture.

 




A heart for Vietnam

In his third visit to Ha Noi, Prime Minister Rutte will visit the Ha Noi - Amsterdam High -School to speak with the students. The school plays a meaningful and symbolic role in the history of cooperation between the Netherlands and Vietnam. He will explore the beauty of Hanoi on a bicycle - his preferred means of transportation – and later engage with Vietnamese female entrepreneurs in a coffee session. Prime Minister Rutte will attend the “International Law and Order at Sea” Roundtable  Conference  , which is co-organised by the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam (DAV) and the Dutch Clingendael Academy. In the framework of the visit, the ‘Mapping the Dragon: Vietnam through the Eyes of Dutch Map-makers’ exhibition will be displayed at the premises of the DAV, showcasing the maps of Vietnam drawn by the Dutch cartographers since late 16th century.
